Bothwell Properties for Sale
Bothwell is a small town near Hamilton that has a long and dramatic history.
To the west of Bothwell stand the substantial ruins of Bothwell Castle, Scotland’s largest and perhaps finest 13th century castle. It was a stronghold of the powerful Moray and Douglas families and one of the castle's most striking features is its massive round tower. On the other side of town, Bothwell Bridge, which spans the Clyde, was the scene of a major battle between Royalists and Covenanters in 1679. A monument commemorating the battle stands near to the bridge. The rich countryside around Bothwell and along the banks of the Clyde provides excellent walking opportunities. The town sits less than a mile away from Uddingston, home to the Tunnock's factory, and Blantyre, birthplace of David Livingstone.
Bothwell has a range of restaurants, cafes and pubs for visitors to choose from. Its shopping facilities include many specialist, designer and craft shops as well as the usual high street names. The town is easily accessible from the M74 motorway and Bothwell can be reached by bus from Glasgow and Motherwell. The nearest railway stations are in Blantyre and Uddingston.
